The Payson Ranger District of the Tonto National Forest is planning to continue prescribed burning next week, as weather conditions look favorable. The work will take place in the Ellison Creek burn units, located just west of the Ellison Creek summer homes and south of the Control Road.
Prescribed fire is one of the most important tools we use to reduce hazardous fuels and help protect Rim Country communities and infrastructure from the threat of future wildfires. These carefully planned burns also promote healthier, more resilient forest conditions.
We sincerely appreciate the continued support of our partners and community members during these important projects.
Looking ahead, current forecasts show a potential for rain around the weekend of November 15–16. If the area receives significant moisture, conditions may become too wet to continue burning operations. However, if the weather remains dry, additional prescribed burns may be scheduled.
Please see the attached map showing the planned Ellison Creek prescribed burn units. We will continue to provide updates as work progresses.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work together to keep our forests and communities safe.
